A lot has been said about Dust 514's ability to retain players. The veterans think along the lines of "Welcome to New Eden". New Eden is a violent place and it's a huge reason a lot of us enjoy it. While a lot of new players see the already widening skill point divide and opt for an easier gaming experience and leave.
While it's true that more skill points will eventually lead to better drop suit, weapon and equipment load outs there is no reason that this in itself should stop you from enjoying the game. Team play will trump a lone wolf the majority of the time, regardless of the skill divide.
Now I know I'm not alone in my desire to see the game succeed and I hope I'm not alone in my wish for more of the new players to stay and eventually become "experienced players". Ideally without the bitterness.
So what am I intending on doing? Well as of a few minutes ago I created a new channel called "Planetfall". It is my hope that I can attract both new and experienced players to use this place as a hub. Somewhere both old and new can squad up and help improve the new player experience.
What do I hope to offer new players?
- A sense of community.
- An easy place to find squads without the need to rush into a corporation.
- Somewhere to ask questions and receive answers.
What do ideally want from experienced players?
- Firstly and most obviously, to join the channel.
- To form or join squads.
- To offer advice.
- To keep a positive attitude. It's a game and it's important to keep it as a fun place to be.
It does not matter if you have found a corporation already, nor does it matter if you would prefer to remain a free clone. No one in the channel will spam recruitment adds, it's not that I'm against people recruiting from the channel. More than I don't want it to end up spammed by adds. All this channel offers is a chance to ask questions, find squads and with any luck make the arrival to New Eden a lot more bearable.
What do I ask for in return?
- Feedback.
I'd love to hear about your experience of the game so far. Good or bad experiences in squads, the battle academy or any other game type.
What made you decide to continue playing, what has made you consider leaving?
What do you think of the tutorials? Did they cover a lot of what you needed to know or did you find other players provided a lot more detail?
When documenting your experiences, please write more than a line. Explain why it was good or bad.
( Keep in mind the channel is new, so it will take time for people to know it exists) |
